About BuiltForSea

Engineering judgement, built on twenty years of hands-on Naval Architecture experience

BuiltForSea is a Hamilton, Ontario-based naval architecture and marine engineering consultancy. Here's the story, the values and the credentials behind the practice.

About Us

Founder & Principal Naval Architect

BuiltForSea was founded on a simple observation: vessel owners and shipyards don't need more paperwork — they need engineering judgement they can act on. After two decades split across design engineering, production, operations and ship procurement, policies and program management, that judgement became the basis of an independent practice built around the realities of maritime operations, not just the drawings.

I am Himanshu Bahuguna, P.Eng., PMP, MBA, Founder and Principal Naval Architect of BuiltForSea. I have more than 20 years of experience across lifecycle support and program delivery. BuiltForSea brings that experience into an independent Canadian engineering practice.

My experience includes work in design offices, shipyards, naval dockyards and on board vessels. It includes naval vessels, submarines, small craft and commercial vessels. The projects and vessels referred to on this page are part of my professional career experience.

Core Values

The values behind how we work

Six principles that shape every engagement, from a single survey to a multi-year program.

Integrity

I will give the engineering answer I believe is correct, including when the answer is not commercially convenient.

Transparency

Scope, assumptions, limitations, responsibilities and changes will be made clear.

Practicality

The recommendation should work on the vessel, in the yard and in operation, not only on paper.

Safety

Safety and professional responsibility take priority over schedule or commercial pressure.
